Course Objectives

International PhD Program in Translational Molecular Medicine and Surgery – Objectives

The program aims to achieve the following specific training objectives:

  • Develop expertise in translational scientific research aimed at integrating biological discoveries with clinical practice, preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative approaches, in order to improve health and lifestyles, considering the global trend of increasing life expectancy.
  • Acquire a solid foundation in methodological disciplines necessary for the correct formulation of experimental hypotheses, the design of experiments, and the critical interpretation of results.
  • Promote communication between biological and clinical research, specifically regarding processes underlying various human pathologies, and particularly in the context of movement and physical activity in areas such as prevention, psycho-physical well-being, and professional or athletic performance, in conditions of health, disease, and disability, from a unified perspective.
  • Understand the ethical implications of biological and clinical research.

Language

The official language of the PhD program is Italian. Both communications to PhD candidates and the program’s teaching activities will primarily be conducted in Italian.

The specific language skills of candidates will be evaluated during the initial selection and further developed through research stays at foreign institutions. However, the annual report of their activities must be submitted in Italian.

Informatics

Another objective of the PhD program is the acquisition of research-related IT skills, including the use of database software, statistical analysis programs such as SPSS, image analysis programs such as GraphPad Prism, and programming environments for algorithm development and data analysis, such as MATLAB.
